Closure of Bridge Lane, Kennel Lane & Drayton Lane - A5 resurfacing

NOTIFICATION OF ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS - A5 MANCETTER ISLAND TO HIGHAM ROUNDABOUT

Highways England have advised they will be carrying out renewal work on the A5 from Mancetter Island to Higham Roundabout.

During our scheme of work, we will resurface the carriageway, install high friction surfacing, refresh road markings, replace traffic detection loops, renew ironworks and clear and tidy vegetation.

Work is due to start in early July 2020 and is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2020. To keep our programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise disruption to the local community, we will work in phases:

• between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Thursday

• between 8pm and 8am Friday

• between 7pm and 10am Saturday

• between 7pm and 6am Sunday

During 2 weekends we plan to work:

• between 8am and 7pm Saturday day time under two-way temporary traffic signals

• between 10am and 7pm Sunday day time under two-way temporary traffic signals

Please note that all our planned works are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

How will the work affect traffic? To maintain a safe environment for our workforce and motorists, we will need to use a mixture of lane and full carriageway closures in phases. During all road closures we will put in place fully signed diversion routes which have been agreed with the Local Authorities.

All carriageways will be open, as usual, outside of our working hours. For additional safety during lane closures, there will also be a reduced speed limit in place while we work.

How will the work affect businesses and residents? We will make sure that access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever possible. We are contacting everyone who may be directly impacted by our works to discuss the scheme in more detail.

Where appropriate, we will provide 'access permits' so motorists can be escorted through our works.

How are we working with the local community? We have put in place a comprehensive communications strategy which will help us share key updates with stakeholders (including local authorities and transport providers), local businesses and residents. We have also appointed a Public Liaison Officer who will support the local community and road users during the construction phase of our scheme. Maintaining safety during Covid-19 We are working hard to maintain the road network and are prioritising critical operational activities. This will help ensure that life-saving medicine, equipment, supplies and healthcare staff can travel to where they're needed most. All our sites have strict safeguarding measures, in line with Public Health England guidance, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and none of our sites are open to the public. All construction projects are closely monitored, and the situation is kept under constant review.
